About the event
Colombian-born percussionist and composer Samuel Torres leads Trio Libre, a minimalist project built around an unusual and focused instrumentation: piano, vibraphone, and congas. Featuring Carmen Staaf and Felipe Fournier, the group moves away from traditional Latin jazz formats toward a more intimate, transparent sound.
The music blends original compositions with subtle nods to influences like Tito Puente and Johann Sebastian Bach, reflecting Torres’s interest in both rhythmic tradition and harmonic depth. The result is a highly personal and exploratory set, including moments of vocal expression and a more reflective tone than his larger ensemble work.
Trio Libre is centered on clarity, interplay, and space, creating a sound that feels both rooted and open, where every gesture counts and the trio dynamic stays fully in focus.
