About the event
Tomas Majcherski is a saxophonist, clarinetist, composer, and bandleader based in New York City. Raised between the East End of Long Island and Vermont, he studied with legendary saxophonist Hal McKusick before earning a master’s degree from the University of New Orleans. In 2018, he received the ASCAP Louis Armstrong Foundation Scholarship for composition.
Majcherski has performed at festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival, New Orleans Jazz Festival, Ottawa Jazz Festival, and Umbria Jazz Festival, and has developed a musical approach shaped by both the New Orleans and New York creative music scenes.
His quartet presents original compositions and improvisation drawing from contemporary jazz, chamber music textures, and modern ensemble interplay. The group’s music balances structured composition with open improvisation, creating performances that move between melodic, rhythmic, and exploratory musical settings.
This concert will be recorded for future broadcast on WLIW-FM
