About the event
Bobby Watson is an alto saxophonist, composer, educator, and bandleader who emerged as a major figure in jazz through his work with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Over the course of his career, Watson has performed and recorded extensively as both a leader and collaborator, working with artists including Max Roach, George Coleman, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, and Joe Williams.
Known for his strong tone, blues rooted phrasing, and energetic improvisation, Watson has released numerous recordings as a bandleader and has remained active internationally as both a performer and educator. In addition to leading his own ensembles, he has served on the faculty at institutions including the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory.
This quartet performance features straight ahead jazz, original compositions, and contemporary improvisation led by one of the most respected alto saxophonists of his generation.
